Three Days of Glynn Ward’s Help Thanks to Blueleaf Care

A brilliant and thoughtful scheme by care home supplier, Blueleaf Care, allowed Sportability to be the beneficiary of three days of the kind, skilled and very welcome assistance of Glynn Ward this Summer.

Blueleaf’s “Three days volunteering” scheme allows employees time off to support good causes, and to our delight, their employee, Glynn Ward, took the opportunity to use the charity days scheme to volunteer for Sportability. …a great example of the private sector supporting the charity sector.
“the smiles on everyone’s faces… priceless”
Glynn came along to a Gliding event at the Wolds Gliding Club at Pockington on Friday 30th May, […]

Thanks to our Hole Sponsors: Rookery Park Golf Club Fundraiser

Thanks to our Hole Sponsors: Rookery Park Golf Club Fundraiser

To all the hole sponsors of our recent fundraiser at Rookery Park Golf Club, Sportability would like to say a big ‘thank you’ and acknowledge your kindness in supporting us. The hole sponsorship is a great addition to the fundraising and added to the success of the whole event.

In 2024 we had our best ever year, organising 84 sporting events for people in 15 regions of the UK – that’s over 1,000 places available completely free of charger for people with paralysis to participate. We are in-line to exceed that figure this year with many more new sporting activities […]

“The Sweat was Pouring off My Hands!”: Jo’s “Incredible Day” of Powered Flying at Tatenhill Airfield

A day of powered flying at Tatenhill had Jo Frank exclaiming; “The sweat was pouring off my hands!”

“What an absolutely incredible day! I’m speechless and still buzzing after the flying at Tatenhill”, Jo reported of the Sportability event last Friday 7th June in Tatenhill near Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.

The instructor seems to have proved a big hit, too: “The instructor was fabulous and everyone so friendly and welcoming. The concentration required in the cockpit was awesome.”

“She’s all yours!”

Jo continued; “One of the best moments was when we hit turbulence flying over Carsington Water, and the sweat was pouring off […]

Rookery Re-vitalised: The Sportability Golf Classic Fundraiser

Rookery Re-vitalised: The Sportability Golf Classic Fundraiser

After a three-year absence, Rookery Park Golf Club once again hosted The Sportability Golf Classic fundraising day on Friday 26th May.  And what a day it was! Fifteen teams competed for the stylish, David Whiteside trophy in fabulous sunshine on a pristine course.

Rookey Park GC holds the unique distinction of being the first ever supporter and fundraiser of Sportability – a relationship that goes back an amazing 34 years. And the newly formed organising group excelled in not only putting on a great tournament but raising in excess of £7,000 for our Charity.

Heartfelt thanks to all involved.

RIP Glyn : Sportability friend extraordinaire……

Glyn Bishop 1944 –2022

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of a remarkable man and Sportability friend extraordinaire, Glyn Bishop.

Glyn has been a supporter of our Charity since its inception.  He held the first ever fundraising event for the Charity – a golf tournament at Rookery Park Golf Club – in 1989 and, Covid years excepted, he has run one every year since!  He tried to “retire” from running the Rookery Park event, handing the reins over to his best pal Deryck, but then took over the organisation of the Dereham Golf Club event instead.

One […]

On September 8th this year Sportability will have been running for 33 years.

In honour of this milestone Jane is aiming to do 33 miles over a series of 5 rambles, hoping to raise some much need funds for Sportability.

Jane’s Words:  “When I found Sportability in 2014, I was shown that life with a disability doesn’t mean a life with limits.  Words cannot adequately express what this charity means to me or how much it has positively changed both my attitude to and outlook on life”

Take at look at Jane’s just giving page and please support […]

Fantastic Fundraiser from Mark Ford of Signwaves

Signwaves have been an avid supporter of Sportability and one of our signature sponsors for too many years to mention.

This Summer, Mark and Charlie Ford have challenged themselves, and completed the Land’s End to John O’Groats Bike Ride on behalf of Sportability.

So far this wonderful fundraising effort has raised more than £1,352 which has been matched by Signwaves.  We are in awe!  Thank you both and well done, what an amazing feat.

SPORTABILITY IS REOPENING

With the country slowly reopening we carried out a small straw poll of our members to gauge how they are feeling about Sportability recommencing activities. As you might imagine, there has been a mixed response which equates to a roughly 50/50 split between: Those who can’t wait and are raring to go; and those who are understandably cautious and not yet ready to return.

Following on from these results we consulted with many of our Service Providers and are pleased to advise that a some of them have already reopened and working with the public at large, albeit with Covid […]
