Glyn Bishop 1944 –2022

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of a remarkable man and Sportability friend extraordinaire, Glyn Bishop.

Glyn has been a supporter of our Charity since its inception.  He held the first ever fundraising event for the Charity – a golf tournament at Rookery Park Golf Club – in 1989 and, Covid years excepted, he has run one every year since!  He tried to “retire” from running the Rookery Park event, handing the reins over to his best pal Deryck, but then took over the organisation of the Dereham Golf Club event instead.

One year he arranged and played in five tournaments in East Anglia for us and then played and supported the Burhill Golf Club tournaments that we organised as well.

In 2014 he survived massive heart failure and subsequent major surgery, and although that limited his playing of golf it never diminished his enthusiasm, meticulous preparation and organisation of his Sportability events.

He could be direct, outspoken and strong-willed but this was all tempered by a wicked sense of fun, a deep loyalty, an amazing empathy and incredible commitment.

Our sincerest condolences go to his family, his sons Jason and Marcus and their extended families.   He will also be greatly missed, but fondly remembered, by the Sportability family.

 RIP Glyn
