Water-skiing near Rother Valley

We’re delighted to announce another fabulous event – Water-skiing at Treeton Lake, Rotherham.

Chris and the posse at Access Adventures Yorkshire and Central (formerly, British Disabled Water Ski Association) are putting on a number of events around the country and we’re invited to join in.

Treeton Lake is situated off Wood Lane and our hosts are the South Yorkshire Boat & Ski Club. There’s a clubhouse, changing rooms and accessible loos so it’s an ideal site for you to put your toe in the water of this amazing sport.

Saturday 15th June 2024. Meet at 12.30pm ’till about 6.00pm

Chris and a very experienced team of instructors, will be there to welcome us and provide guidance, advice, encouragement and instruction for you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of skiing.

We’ll meet at 12.30pm. There’s tea and coffee at the ‘meet and greet’ area, but bring your own lunch as there are NO catering facilities.

There’ll be a short intro and safety briefing and then it will be out onto the water. They are experienced in matching skills, abilities and people so complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome.

Wet suits, dry suits if necessary, buoyancy aids, skis and seated skis are of course provided, but you bring a swimming costume, towel and perhaps a track suit and/or change of clothes.

Don’t worry if you haven’t tried skiing before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction.

And remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.

It will always feel cooler by the water, and there may be a bit of waiting around as people are loaded and unloaded from the skis – so it is a good idea to bring an extra layer. So, please have something windproof and waterproof as a top layer.

The sat nav is a bit off because the lake access is down a small lane. So from exit 33 on the M1 [the Catcliffe roundabout] head thro’ Treeton following the B6067 south-east. Look for the Treeton Grange Nursing and Residential Care Home on Wood Lane and a giant green Mining Wheel as a landmark. Turn Right down the road, which then becomes a lane and follow as it swings Right along the lakeside to the clubhouse.
