We have a Brand New event for our members – PADEL. This is a fun sport for all abilities that combines elements of badminton, tennis and squash. Played on both indoor or outdoor courts, two or four players use solid paddles made of composite materials to hit a synthetic perforated all over a net.

Although similar to tennis, there are important differences that make this racquet sport much more accessible [and dare we say, much more enjoyable] for those coming new to the sport.

First a Padel ball travels at a slower average speed than the tennis ball and in this game you serve underhand. The court is about a third of the total area of a tennis court – less ground to cover! There’s a net similar to a tennis net, but lower and you can play the ball of the walls as in squash. As a result, Padel has a very short learning curve and you will receive some expert tuition.

And on 1st July May You could be taking part in this very exciting Sportabiity Wheelchair Padel Event with Sarah and the posse at Freedom Leisure.

So, novices and never-evers are absolutely welcomed. It’s what Sarah and the team do best! They’ll be on hand to tutor you from the most basic beginnings to the finer details of Padel.

Sports wheelchairs are available, but if you prefer to use your own then that fine too!

The Centre has fully accessible loos, changing room with shower and a lovely café offering year-round access to indoor and outdoor courts.
