Waterskiing at Heron Lake near Heathrow
Thursday 20th June 2019
We’re delighted to announce our September date for waterskiing at the Tony Edge Centre to provide more sport for you. To paraphrase: If you can get to it. Just do it!
A few miles south west of Heathrow Airport and just off junction 13 of the M25 is what has been described as “simply the best facility in the world for teaching disabled water skiing”. This is Heron Lake the home base of the British Disabled Water-Ski and Wakeboard Association and site of our latest offering.
Originally dug out to supply the clay banks of the M25 the resultant ‘hole’ was landscaped into a vast lake that has matured into a terrific inland water playground and wildlife sanctuary. Now it boasts full and half slalom water ski courses; and trick and jump facilities. With a licensed, fully catered clubhouse, changing rooms and accessible loos it’s an ideal site for us to put your toe in the water of this amazing sport.
It’s here that we’ve scheduled the September 2018 date for our ‘taster’ water ski day with Mick and the team at BDWWA.
Thursday 20th June. Meet at 11.00 – Start time 11.30 am till approx 3.30 pm
The BDWWA posse and their very experienced team of instructors, will be there to welcome us and provide guidance, advice, encouragement and instruction for you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of skiing.
We’ll meet at 11.00 am. Drive through the electric barrier and park up. From here it’s easy access to both the water ski area and the ramped main building. There’s tea and coffee at the ‘meet and greet’ area. .
There’ll be a short intro and safety briefing and then it will be out onto the water. They are experienced in matching skills, abilities and people so complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome.
Wet suits, dry suits if necessary, buoyancy aids, skis and seated skis are of course provided, but you bring a swimming costume, towel and perhaps a track suit and/or change of clothes.
Don’t worry if you haven’t tried skiing before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction.
And remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.
It will always feel cooler by the water, and there may be a bit of waiting around as people are loaded and unloaded from the skis – so it is a good idea to bring an extra layer. So please have something windproof and waterproof as a top layer.
So just to recap on those details:
