Sailing Opportunities for East Midlands and East Anglia
Rutland Water Welcome Sportability
15th August 2019

Friends, Amigos, Amici,

We are pleased to announce our return to Rutland Water for a fabulous sailing day. Situated almost midway between Leicester and Peterborough, Rutland Water is one of the largest man-made stretches of water in Europe, as big as Windermere – over 3000 acres of sheltered water – and set in some of Britain’s loveliest countryside.

The Sailability posse and their very experienced team of instructors, will be there to welcome us and provide the super safe Access dinghies or Challenger Catamarans for you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of sailing on:

Thursday 15th August 2019;Meet at 11.30 – Start time 12.00 pm ’til 3.00 (ish).

Rutland Sailablity is one of the most accessible sites we’ve ever seen! The clubhouse has ramp access from the parking areas, leading directly into the Wet Bar where Sailability reception can be found. There’s also a lift from main Rutland Sailing Club Reception area to first floor to the Sailability reception. The shower, changing and toilet facilities are totally accessible and even include the provision of hoist, if required.

So, we’ll meet at 11.30. Drive through the main gates, hang right and park up. From here it’s easy access to both the sailing area and the ramped main building. There’s tea and coffee at the ‘meet and greet’ area.

There’ll be a short intro and safety briefing and then it will be out onto the water. The team are very experienced in matching skills, abilities and people to the boats available.  So complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome.

There’s a pontoon plus hoist, to make access to the dinghies easier.

Life Jackets are of course provided, but we suggest that you bring a towel and perhaps a change of clothes – you might get wet!

Please don’t worry if you haven’t tried sailing before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction. And remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.

You don’t need special clothing – anything that is comfortable is OK. Tracksuits are ideal, but any casual trouser, jeans, tee-shirts and sweatshirts or fleeces are fine. And soft shoes please. It will always feel cooler on the water, so it is a good idea to bring an extra layer.  So please have something windproof and waterproof as a top layer. As mentioned before a change of clothes (and shoes) is also not a bad idea – just in case. And if it is sunny remember not only the sun bloc, but your sunglasses, as there’s glare from the water.

So just to recap on those details:
