A Beautiful Day on the Water!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are pleased to announce our Sept 2024 date on the waters of the River Yare or Little Whitlingham Broad – or maybe both ‘cos the Clubhouse is between them – with Tim and the crew at the Norwich Canoe Club. The club is situated just past the village of Trowse on the borders of Norwich and we’ll be there on:
The sessions will consist of three opportunities – using either an open (Canadian) canoe, a twin hull Katacanu or a Kayak. You might even try all three!
For those who are more confident and perhaps with some experience, the single seater kayaks are a preferred option. But for complete beginners, or those who feel they need a bit more support we recommend the open canoe. And, for even more security the Katacanu is two hulls lashed together to form a catamaran – a very stable craft!
This event is available to everyone, whether you have canoed before or not. Absolute beginners are very welcome. And you might start with the Katacanu or Canadian, and graduate to the Kayak, but this will be at the discretion of the instructors on the day.
Of course, there will be instructors and/or recovery crew in safety boats throughout the activities.
There is NO hoist available.
Life-jackets will be provided, and the usual wardrobe is T-shirt, shorts or trackie bottoms and canvas shoes or trainers. But you should bring a change of clothes. Even if you don’t go in, you may still get very wet!
Also, bring some lunch, drink and snacks for the day.
The Centre is wheelchair accessible throughout, including loos and changing rooms, and there’s a lift from the ground floor to the first floor facilities.
Moreover, to accommodate Sportability, the Club is allowing parking on the grass right in front of the Clubhouse. So when driving in just follow the lane past the ski club and the old boathouse and take the track to the Canoe Club (also signed for The Outdoor Education Centre). Where we’ll be waiting for you!
