Event Details
Friends, Amigos. Amici,
We are pleased to announce we are back with the crew at the Wokingham Waterside Centre, just off the M4 near Reading for some more canoeing and kayaking:
18th September 2024
Don’t Miss Out – Book Your Place Now!
We’ll meet at 11.00 am at the Centre for a briefing and kit-up; and kick-off at approx. 11.30 pm. We will have a session on the water, then a short break for lunch (please remember to bring your sandwiches!) and then for those that are up for it, another session out on the water. So we’ll go through until approx. 2.30 pm.
The sessions will consist of three opportunities – using either an open (Canadian) canoe a twin hull Katacanu or a Kayak. You might even try all three!
For those who are more confident and perhaps with some experience, the single seater kayaks are a preferred option. But for complete beginners, or those who feel they need a bit more support we recommend the open canoe. And, for even more security the Katacanu is two hulls lashed together to form a catamaran – a very stable craft!
This event is available to everyone, whether you have canoed before or not. Absolute beginners are very welcome. And you might start with the Katacanu or Canadian, and graduate to the Kayak, but this will be at the discretion of the instructors on the day.
Of course, there will be instructors and recovery crew in safety boats throughout the activities.
There’s a hoist for those that want it and plenty of assistance getting in and out of the craft.
Lifejackets will be provided, and the usual wardrobe is T-shirt, shorts or trackie bottoms and canvas shoes or trainers. But you should bring a change of clothes. Even if you don’t go in, you may still get very wet!
Full address is: Wokingham Waterside Centre Thames Valley Park Drive Thames Valley Park Berkshire RG6 1PQ. Details of the location and directions can be found by visiting the website of Wokingham Waterside Centre
The Centre is wheelchair accessible throughout, including loos and changing rooms.
So, to recap, please put this date into your diary:
18th September 2024. Meet at 11.00 am for an 11.30 pm start.
We’d love to see you there. And you might just surprise yourself!
If you’d like to join us please contact Valerie via email info@sportability.org.uk
You will be required to complete a medical questionnaire, and consent form prior to participation at the request of Wokingham Waterside Centre. These are standard forms, and have never excluded any of our participants in the past. However, it would be useful if you could bring a list of your current medication. Please note that non swimmers will be able to participate subject to prior agreement. So if you are a weak or a non swimmer, please telephone the Centre on 0118 926 8280 to obtain this prior agreement.
We hope to see you there!
Best Wishes
