Now riding an all-terrain motorbike at speed across a rutted, dusty field is quite a challenge for anyone, but more so for someone who had never straddled a bike in her life.  Add in the fact that this then 44 year old was diagnosed with M.S. eighteen years before and couldn’t walk unaided and it became an Everest of an achievement.

For Jane it was a chance too good to miss.  After a tentative start she was soon careering round the track. “It was one of the most exhilarating things I have ever done.  Of course I was nervous to begin with, but I told myself ‘you can do this’ and I did.”

Jane came back for more quad biking days, has been sailing, canoeing and tried her hand at archery.  She was so inspired by the experience that she became our events organiser for the Midlands, intent on bringing sport to more people with paralysis. 

With her infectious enthusiasm she is a great example of what can be achieved against the odds.  But more than that - she found a new enthusiasm for life, not only for herself, but for all the family.  She has been canoeing and sailing with her husband Gordon and the two kids, Jack and Laura.

“It’s marvellous to be able to enjoy these things as a family and when I leave the wheelchair on the river bank or lakeside I leave my disability with it.  Out on the water I am a sailor or a canoeist, not a wheelchair user.”
