Sailing at Pitsford Water
Saturday 20th August 2016
One Not To Be Missed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are delighted to announce our August 2016 date for Sailing with Roy Childs and the crew at Sailability, plus our own ambassador and event groupie, Roger Bastow who will all be waiting to welcome you at the expansive Pitsford Water, Brixworth, some five miles north of Northampton.
Saturday 20th Aug 2016 – Arrival time 10.30am – approx. 3.00pm.
A haven for wildlife with over 10,000 birds wintering here, the wonderful lake-like setting now plays host to Sportability.
There’s a barrier gate with entryphone and then you simply drive past the Clubhouse on the right-hand side and park up. Then it’s down alongside the building to the easy accessible ramped entrance on the water side of the Clubhouse.
The Club will provide several boats for you to experience the joy, the fun, the exhilaration of sailing. With their fleet of sailing dinghies, including two Drascombe Longboats, a couple of Martin Keelboats, six uncapsizeable Access 303s – the workhorse of sailing clubs – and the superfast Laser 2000 and Challenger Tri-maran, there is enough variety for everyone! So complete novices and never-evers are more than welcome.
And for more experienced sailors there are some craft that will test your mettle!
There is a friendly team of instructors and experienced sailors at the club who will welcome you whatever your level of expertise.
The present clubhouse has been refurbished and large picture windows overlook the lake. Its excellent facilities include ladies and gents changing rooms with toilets and showers. There is a lake view patio with picnic tables, but unfortunately the bar/restaurant is closed during our sessions. There’ll be teas and coffees, available, but please bring your own lunch
There is wheelchair access to all parts of the Clubhouse and onto the pontoon.
There are three hoists available if needed, for assisting people into and out of boats.
Life Jackets are of course provided, but we suggest that you bring a towel and perhaps a change of clothes – you might get wet!
Don’t worry if you haven’t tried sailing before, there will be plenty of hands-on advice, guidance and instruction.
And remember that with Sportability anyone within our remit can participate free of charge.
You don’t need special clothing, anything that is comfortable is OK. Tracksuits are ideal, but any casual trouser, jeans, tee-shirts and sweatshirts or fleeces are fine. It will always feel cooler on the water, so it is a good idea to bring an extra layer. As mentioned before a change of clothes is also not a bad idea – just in case.
So just to recap on those details:
