East Anglia Retirement

After several years our East Anglia Area Organisers, David and Di Riches, have decided to "retire" from Sportability.

We wish them well and thank them for their years of service, and hopefully they will be joining us in the continuing programme but as participants rather than organisers.

The East Anglia programme that they have helped to build will continue and indeed, is growing. Apart from sailing, quadbiking and clay pigeon shooting, we will be 'piloting' a gliding programme at Tibenham. Unfortunately, a couple of dates there have been cancelled but new dates will be in the diary soon.

David and Di's retirement also means we have a vacancy for a volunteer Area Organiser for East Anglia. So if you feel that you'd like to assist, then please give us a call on 0208 959 0089 or drop us an email info@sportability.org.uk  and we'll take it from there.

East Anglia Set Up
Central to our activities in the region is the Suffolk Moto Park. Owner, Joe Ramsey, has been a great friend and promoter of Sportability from our first meeting. It's here that Joe hosts the quad biking and clay pigeon shooting. Being an outdoor adventure centre it is rough and rugged, and unfortunately does not have accessible loos.

Sailing takes place in collaboration with our friends at the Woolverstone Project. This is a registered charity that operates out of both Woolverstone Marina and at Alton Water on the Shotley Peninsula, just outside of Ipswich. At Alton Water, the project has five 2.3m Access class boats and two 3.03m Access boats, as well as two Challenger tri-marans. These are all craft that have been designed for ease of use by disabled sailors. More importantly all the crew have a great can do attitude that gets even our most apprehensive novices out of their wheelchairs and onto water.

The centre has a cafeteria and accessible loos.
