Blokarting 'Taster' Sessions at the BLSA Bovingdon
We are delighted to advise that BLSA, British Land Speedsail Association have invited our members to participate in their Blokart 'Taster' Days on 26th July and 2nd August.
A Blokart is a small, easily portable, type of landyacht - like a wheeled seat with a huge sail. You sit close to the ground and the impression of speed is tremendous. In fact it is fast! The European Blokart speed record is an amazing 59.6mph. It's faster than sailing on water and it's an incredibly manoeuvrable craft. The beauty for us is that it is all hand controls and you don't need to use your legs at all.
As many of you will know our area organiser at Bristol and Gloucester, Chris Selway is an avid karter and moreover offers our own try-karting days twinned with our gliding programme at Aston Down near Stroud, Gloucester.
However the BLSA offer is at Bovingdon Airfield, Upper Bourne End Lane, Bourne End, Hertfordshire, HP1 2RR. and their chairman, Nick Dodge and his crew will welcome any Sportability participants.
This is not part of the standard Sportability programme and there will be a small charge, payable to Nick on the day of £10 per person.
For directions to Bovingdon, please log on to the BLSA website, www.theblsa.com click onto sailing venues and get their directions to Bovingdon.
Nick warns us that the Satnav use of the postcode will take you to the wrong part of the airfield, so please follow the BLSA instructions.
For all bookings it is imperative that you contact Nick beforehand on chairman@theblsa.com or call his mobile 07860 252193
We are really enthused by this opportunity and Nick is also talking of fitting in some other evening dates to accommodate our people, but please discuss this with him directly, if that would suit you.
So our thanks to everyone involved at the BLSA and especially Nick and happy Karting!
